While the Double Bass is the only member of the old Gamba family still used in our current classical and jazz music, the bass is possibly the most indispensable instrument in all music. Not only is it the keeper of the beat and the foundation of harmony, the bass is also a beautiful soloist in its own right having the widest range of any instrument.
